‘’I’m grateful for donors who provide plasma for my treatment. Without them I would not be able to give my care to patients."
Ayesha, living with CVID
As a child I always managed to contract every infection, virus, or bug that was circulating around my peers. This carried on through adolescence and into my early twenties. I was a diagnosed asthmatic but never let this hold me back.
In 1999, I became a mental health nurse and specialized in caring for individuals with Huntington’s disease. But shortly after, I found my true calling and became a mental health nurse for older people.
Unfortunately, I contracted respiratory MRSA in 2003 and was referred to a specialist respiratory consultant. After many investigations, tests, and a referral to Immunology specialists, I was finally diagnosed in 2010 with CVID.
With a lot of patience and trials, we finally found an appropriate therapy, and I am finally back on track, still working full-time and – thanks to an excellent medical support team – I am able to function and live a fulfilled life.
Sometimes I thank God I’m a health professional, as this makes it so much easier when talking to my doctors and care team. I’m grateful for the donors who provide the plasma for my treatment. Without them I would not be able to give my care to patients and would not have a wonderful husband and two beautiful children.
