‘’Doctors need to be aware of the most up-to-date treatment options to promote the best outcomes for their patients."

Adrienn, living with Guillain-Barre Syndrome

On Monday May 26, 2014, of my own accord, I went to the hospital with the following symptoms: toe numbness, imbalance, lower back pain. I could hardly walk.  My situation continued to deteriorate. The diagnosis was Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS).

I received five plasmapheresis therapies. I had to re-learn to speak, write, sit and stand again. I was allowed home on December 3, 2014. I need to use a cane for walking now. I went back to work, but I currently can’t work full-time. I cannot push myself too much.

I think that it’s very important for doctors to recognize rare diseases and to provide the necessary treatments as soon as possible – to save lives and improve patients’ quality of life. Doctors need to be aware of the most up-to-date treatment options available so they can promote the best outcomes for their patients.
